Mystic Fox - Northern Lights

By Jon Lupus

Later on, Jon, Aurora, and Marie were heading back to Aurora’s den. Aurora led them around on a different path than the one they came here. Eventually they walked out into what seemed was an unfamiliar, section of forest, with a lot of trees. Aurora stopped at a tall tree.

“Now how do we get back?” Aurora asked.

“I was hoping you knew the way,” Jon replied.

“I know the way!” Marie was sniffing around, “We use our nose!”

“Correct,” Aurora brushed her tail up against the large tree. “I just made a scent marking up against the tree there. Its one of the ways I can navigate what seems to be an endless forest that all looks the same.”

Jon sniffed around, he was able to pick up Aurora’s scent, and suddenly it was if there was a trail through the trees with Aurora’s scent emanating from it. While Jon was focusing on the trail, Marie slowly moved up to Jon and sniffed his shoulder.

“You smell nice,” Marie blushed and giggled.

“Hehe, thanks” Jon replied, “This way guys,” Jon pointed the way and proceeded to the left of the large tree. Aurora and Marie followed behind him. After a little while they made it back to Aurora’s den near the foothills of the mountain.

“You learned that one quickly,” Aurora went over to her stove to make a cup of tea.

Marie softly grabbed onto Jon’s arm and rested her head on his shoulder. Jon smiled and put his arm around her and the two embraced softly whilst Aurora was working by the stove. Aurora’s ears twitched as she turned around to see them together.

“Well, it seems we skipped a few lessons,” Aurora laughed. Jon and Marie blushed together and quickly moved back.

“Don’t be embarrassed, love is natural. I once had a love too…,” Aurora looked out into the sky.

“What happened to him?” Marie asked.

“He was killed by some hunters,” Aurora looked up into the sky, “He thought he was invincible, and he got a quick lesson about life and death that day.”

“What was he like?” Marie asked.

“We’ll he was very loving, and protective, he taught me a lot of the tricks I knew,” Auroras ears lowered, “However he was arrogant too, he thought he could fight anyone and win. Eventually it caught up with him. I still see his spirit at night, in the northern lights; he is still there guiding me.”

Marie cuddled up to Jon again.

“Don’t look at me, Marie; I don’t like fighting.” Jon cuddled Marie. Aurora was staring out the window with her head down. Jon and Marie got up, went over to Aurora and hugged her together.

“He may be gone, but you have us, me and Jon, your friends, and we are here for you Aurora,” Marie replied.

“Thank you…,” Aurora said softly, holding back tears.
